We engage in our mission as part of our commitment to the Torah and traditions of our revered teacher, the Rav zt"l

Our Minyan was founded by the Rav zt"l in the first years after the Maimonides School moved to Philbrick Road in Brookline. It follows the Rav's unique positions and precise stipulations about the laws and practices of tefila.
As a result, the Maimonides Kehilah is devoted to the study and dissemination of the Torah of the Rav, Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik. The regular class schedule often turns to review the halachic or philosophic observations that the Rav made in regard to a particular topic.
Scholars-in-Residence are often the students of the Rav, or those who have published his works, who share with us the ideas and thoughts they studied between the walls of our Minyan.
The Minyan has always been linked to Maimonides School, in which it resides. The Minyan regularly partners with the school on various programs (such as shabbatonim, and other school events) and also continues to recite Yizkor for many of the founders of Maimonides who helped build the school 70 years ago. Many current Maimonides students, parents, grandparents, and alumni daven at Maimonides from throughout the Brookline community.
In addition, the Minyan also perpetuates the mission of the Chevra Shas of Boston. Founded in the 1880s, the Chevra Shas is committed to the regular study of the Shas, or the Talmud, in the Boston Jewish community. For decades, the Maimonides Minyan has served as the home for the programming of the Chevra Shas.
Lastly, the Minyan hosts the weekly Talner Shiur each Tuesday evening, given in memory of the late Talner Rebbe z"l, who himself taught the wider Boston Jewish community each Tuesday evening for decades. Rabbi Twersky had a profound connection with Maimonides school, whose school committee he led, and our weekly class is dedicated in his memory.
