Jewish Life

Our mission is to be mindful of how other aspects of Jews and Judaism such as our History, Sociology, Psychology, and Geopolitics help inform our lives as thoughtful, observant Jews

The Maimonides Minyan is committed to programs which investigate all aspects of Jewish life, beyond our focus of prayer, Torah, and Chessed.  Recent events have helped us grow in thinking about the other dimensions in which Jews interact with the world include:

  • Lecture on the US's role in Iraq and implications for Israel and the Arab world
  • Shabbaton on the Sociology of American Judaism and its implications
  • A view from the Haiti earthquake

Rabbi Jaffe's articles on Jewish History

  • Priestly Meat Portions in Exile: Popular Custom and Rabbinic Responses
  • Historiography, Printing, and the Power of Hearsay in a Position of Rabad
  • A note on the connection between the English word "Jackal," the Persian "Shegal" and Rosh Hashanah 4b
