Our Kehillah has been led by Rabbi Yaakov Jaffe, since the summer of 2008. Rabbi Jaffe has provided visionary and inspired leadership, transforming our congregation into a full-functioning Makom Tefilah and Makom Torah, bringing 25 new families and thirty new children into our community in the last few years.
Rabbi Jaffe has a reputation both as a learned Teacher and Scholar, and also as a Compassionate Guide and Counselor.
Rabbi Jaffe's formal education was focused at Yeshiva University, where he received Rabbinic Ordination, and also studied advanced topics in Jewish Law in the illustrious Wexner Kollel Elyon. At the time, Rabbi Jaffe also earned masters degrees in Jewish History, Bible, and Jewish Education - topics Rabbi Jaffe continues to lecture on in the Brookline community. Rabbi Jaffe previously studied English and Psychology at Columbia University, and those topics also regularly inform his lectures and sermons.
Beyond his tole as a teacher, Rabbi Jaffe has significant experience and training in communication skills and supporting others in difficult times. Prior to moving to Boston, he was certified as a New York State Mediator, and worked mediating household, business, and neighbor disputes at the Washington-Heights/Inwood Coalition, and also completed one unit of CPE training under CSPS, the standard for communal Rabbis.
In addition to serving as the Rabbi of the Maimonides Minyan, Rabbi Jaffe is also a member of the faculty at the Maimonides School, a judge of the Boston Rabbinical Court, and an active member of the Vaad Harabanim. He lectures widely throughout the community, especially at Maayan, the Boston community women's learning initiative. Prior to moving to Boston, Rabbi Jaffe worked at the Hebrew Home for the Aged at Riverdale, and was also the US National Coordinator for the Chidon Hatanach, the International Bible Contest of the Jewish Agency for Israel.
Rabbi Jaffe can be approached in person, after the regular daily Minyanim, or can be reached by email for more information about the Maimonides Kehillah, with Halachic quesitons, or for any other form of assistance.
Rabbi Jaffe and his wife Yael live on Clark Road in Brookline - in the Buffer area between the Brookline Hills, Greater Point, and Brookline Village sections of Brookline - with their three children.
